UKCVA welcomes streamlining of Chinese Visas applicationsSeptember 15, 2014
The UKCVA, of which London First is the major funder, welcomes the announcement by the Home Secretary Theresa May of new measures to streamline the processes for applying for a UK and a Schengen visitor visa.
In June the Home Secretary spoke at the launch of UKCVA’s report “Building on Progress” which made the case for streamlining the two systems as the best way to significantly increase Chinese visitor numbers in the UK.
A key recommendation of the report was that the UK should work with other European countries to allow applicants to apply for both visas at the same time and same place to remove the need to visit two separate Visa Application Centres.
The Home Secretary’s announcement shows clear progress towards establishing a pilot following negotiations with Schengen member states and the Chinese government.
Andrew Murphy, Chairman of the Alliance and Retail Director of John Lewis said “this is an important and very welcome step forward. It is only by streamlining the two application systems that we will achieve the significant increases in Chinese visitor numbers. We have been working with government to find practical ways to deliver this and the progress that the Home Secretary has announced today is a major advance”.
