Starter Homes policy should be devolved to the MayorMay 19, 2016
Starter Homes requirements will be coming into force soon with Royal Assent of the Housing and Planning Act.
Starter Homes are a new housing product eligible to first time buyers under the age of 40. Homes will be sold at a discount of 20% of market value with a maximum cap of £450,000 in London.
In our response to the government’s consultation, we have asked that the implementation of Starter Homes policy should be devolved to the Mayor of London. This would enable him to strike the right balance between the delivery of Starter Homes and other much needed forms of affordable housing.
This would be in keeping with the current position whereby much housing and planning policy in London is already devolved to the Mayor of London, with this having been reinforced by the Localism Act 2011.
