Move to “ease visa rules for Chinese tourists”November 6, 2012
According to the Evening Standard today, the government is discussing possible “dual processing” of British and Schengen visa applications so that Chinese applicants have to send only one form and one set of documents but receive two visas. For some time, London First, together with retail and tourism businesses, has been flagging concerns that our tourist visa system is preventing the UK from attracting more high spending tourists, such as the Chinese. Data from the New West End Company suggests that if the visa restrictions were eased the UK could benefit from up to £1.2bn of extra spending from Chinese visitors. If the newspaper’s report is correct, this is excellent news and we look forward to working with the government on ensuring that the UK is visibly seen to be rolling out the red carpet for high-spending tourists.
