Lord Hill’s appointment gives UK important voice in EUSeptember 10, 2014
The appointment of Lord Hill as the EU’s Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union commissioner is good news, particularly for the UK’s financial sector.
Dr David Lutton, Director of Financial Services at business group London First, said:
“Lord Hill’s appointment is good news for London and its world-leading financial sector.
“It means the UK will have a strong voice in making sure the interests of all 28 members of the EU are considered rather than the priorities of the 18 countries using the euro.
“Lord Hill will be a strong advocate of integrating capital markets – a key area where the experience of the City of London will help release much needed investment into the European economy.
“This will support the type of growth and entrepreneurialism that will lift the European economies out of stagnation.”
In May, London First published research into the relationship between London and the EU, which concluded that EU membership is critical to London’s future success. We have now published facts and figures from the report in a briefing note entitled The Relationship Between London and Europe, setting out the importance of our affiliation with the world’s largest economy.
