London Skills & Employment Board strategy launch – commentJuly 17, 2008
Baroness Jo Valentine, Chief Executive of business organisation London First, responded to the publication of the London Skills and Employment Board Strategy. She said:
“London has benefited from a huge amount of investment and prosperity in recent years. But, it has a higher unemployment rate than Liverpool, Leicester or Lanarkshire. We clearly need a better link between those Londoners out of employment and the jobs actually available. Employers have long been calling for people to be trained with jobs in mind, instead of abstract qualifications. This strategy shows the way forward.
“The strategy’s ‘one-stop-shop’ approach to the funding and supply of skills training will make it easier to access for business and those seeking to improve their skills.”
