London First responds to Visit Britain cutsFebruary 9, 2011
Commenting on the decision to cut Visit Britain funding
Baroness Jo Valentine, CEO of influential business group London First was unimpressed with Visit Britain’s sacrifice of business tourism as it seeks to reduce spending. She said
“Tourism is a true success story for the UK, supporting nearly 3 million jobs and contributing some £34bn in tax revenues. Surely it deserves more Government support than it receives. Tourism ought to be considered as a sector with high potential for growth. We have a competitive exchange rate, growing markets in China and the Middle East, and the once in a lifetime exposure afforded by the Olympics. The opportunity for conference and events activity couldn’t be higher and yet London and other UK cities are unable to make the most of it.”
