LISTEN: London’s Techpreneurs rally to Remain in Europe

London First has been catalysing the tech community to get involved and rally Londoners to register to vote – and Remain.

Techpreneurs have immense social media reach and influence, especially with young people. The latter are the least likely to vote, despite being the group who will be impacted most by the decision.

Watch highlights from our Rally for Remain event

London First engaged more than 50 London tech firm leaders, to sign a letter featured in the Evening Standard, urging the capital’s voters to back Remain and warning that Brexit risks killing the ‘golden goose’ which offers high wage, high-skilled jobs to the capital’s young people.

The letter, and full list of signatories which included Alistair Lukies CBE, Prime Minister’s Business Advisor for FinTech, Debbie Wosskow, Chief Executive and Founder of Love Home Swap, and the co-Founders of Transferwise, is symbolic of the strength of feeling in the capital’s most successful new industry on the risk Brexit poses to London’s fastest growing sector.

The letter was published the same day as we held the ‘Rally for Remain’ event in Old Street, where 100 tech leaders and international investors gathered to not only celebrate the role of the EU in helping London’s technology firms, but to catalyse tech leaders to utilise their networks, reach and influence to engage people to register to vote, and to Remain.

Speakers represented all angles – Fintech investor Clement Daudy; 22-year old tech entrepreneur Jack Parsons; Seema Malhotra MP, Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury; Russ Shaw, Founder of the Tech London Advocates; Sarah Luxford of NEXEC Leaders; games industry expert Ian Livingstone CBE; and London First’s Europe Director, Naomi Smith – listen to some highlights here.

With 34 days left until the Big Decision we’ll be focusing on getting young people to register to vote before the deadline on 7 June, and getting people to turn out and vote Remain.
