It is time to Let Britain Fly

The latest indications are that a decision on the new runway is due before the end of October with a recommendation coming from the Cabinet’s Economic Affairs (Airports) sub-Committee, and expected to be put to a vote in Parliament.

Let Britain Fly have been making sure that the importance of a new runway to all regions of the UK is not lost in the debate.

New research published by Let Britain Fly in September shows that UK plc is missing out huge volumes of trade with the top ten fastest growing emerging market economies because of a lack of runway capacity.

For every year that passes without a new runway in operation, the UK loses out on £9.5bn of potential trade – equivalent to a loss of £1.1 million per hour. The full report can be found here and received coverage in the Guardian and City AM.

With the possibility of a vote in Parliament, it is essential to make sure MPs from all parties and regions understand the importance of voting in favour of airport expansion to support jobs and growth in their region.

It has therefore been encouraging to see a wide coalition of supporters getting behind airport expansion, including the Trade Unions, and Let Britain Fly will continue to mobilise the local business community to make the pro-runway case to their MPs.
