Improving the calibre of teachers in London schools
Teach First is an organisation which encourages exceptional graduates to teach in challenging London schools for two years. After this two-year period, the graduates have the opportunity to remain in the teaching profession or are offered a position within a number of supporting businesses.
London First, working with Business in the Community, set up Teach First in 2001. Since then, the scheme has placed over 1,000 graduates and the initiative has been rolled out in Manchester and the Midlands.
In March 2012 Teach First was voted number 4 in The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers, demonstrating that the UK graduate market believes teaching in a low-income school is considered the best graduate opportunity in the country outside the big three accounting firms (PwC, Deloitte and KPMG).
