Global Cities Business Alliance
The Global Cities Business Alliance is a new initiative, created by London First in response to the growing importance of cities to business and the shift of power from the national to the city level.
In today’s era of unprecedented urbanisation, the world’s leading business capitals, including London, are under immense pressure to realise their economic potential and enhance quality-of-life for their citizens. Global businesses have the knowledge, experience and reach to enable cities to achieve their potential.
The Global Cities Business Alliance provides a unique forum where business and city Leaders come together to define, shape and implement initiatives for improving cities’ performance in the changing global economy.
The Alliance will focus on a set of key priorities annually and will work on these through a programme of targeted work streams and interactive events, culminating in the annual Global Cities Symposium.
In 2015-16, the Alliance is working on two priorities:
- City-business interaction: how to create a more effective dialogue between business and city leaders
- Housing for Inclusive Cities: how to address the impact of the housing crisis on attracting and retaining talent
The first outcomes of these work streams will be presented and debated at the 2016 Global Cities Symposium, which will be held in London on 21 June. The Symposium will also provide the forum to discuss new priority areas for the Alliance, such as culture and innovation, funding & financing of infrastructure, and urban mobility.
