Comment on Lord Mawhinney report on High Speed 2 (July 2010)

Commenting on Lord Mawhinney’s report on High Speed 2, a spokesman for London First, the business organisation which has campaigned for better passenger service at Heathrow, said:

“Heathrow won’t deliver consistently good service while operating at 99% of capacity. Part of the argument against increasing capacity at Heathrow was that High Speed Rail could replace enough UK connecting flights. If Lord Mawhinney was supposed to be making this case, then the opponents of extra Heathrow capacity will be disappointed. The Transport Secretary may have to take another look at his aviation and his rail policies.”
