City leaders demand pledge on airport expansion

Let Britain Fly responded to the launch of the Airports Commission’s public consultation on new runways for London and the South East by calling on the UK’s main political parties to offer manifesto commitments that pledge to make a quick decision on airports expansion once the Commission makes its final recommendation after the election next summer.

This follows a series of public statements in favour of airports expansion made by both Ministers and Shadow Ministers at the recent political party conferences.   However the business community is concerned that without a clear pledge in election manifestos to ‘make a quick decision guided by the Airports Commission’ that there could be a risk of further potential political procrastination on urgently needed airports expansion. The response picked up good coverage in City AM with a front page article and a comment from Sir George Iacobescu of Canary Wharf Group, calling for an end to 40 years of failure on airport expansion.
